Relax, take it easy

You can always increase the load next month

This post is part of the “Make better commitments” series.
You can think of the series as an aggregation of the lessons learned by making bad commitment decisions myself, and seeing other make sub-optimal choices.

As the founder of HostageFund, I like to stress-test the system to see how far it can be pushed.

I figure that if I can push the barrier and still cross the finish line in one piece, it helps everyone else try to reach just a little farther while knowing that they too, can make it happen.

It’s kind of like the Roger Banister broke the 4-minute-mile barrier, just 100x less significant.

Well, we’re just about to wrap up the March HostageFund challenge and I must admin… I’m exhausted.

These were my March commitments with $2,000 on the line:

🏃🏽 Run 48 miles in 48 hours
🧘🏼 Stretch for 900 minutes
⚖️ Lose 14 pounds
🏋🏻 3600 kettlebell swings
📸 Publish 10 Instagram post for HostageFund
📃 Publish 10 blog posts for HostageFund

I’m not saying this to brag… I am genuinely so over the grind!

In retrospect, any three commitments on that list would have sufficed, and I wouldn’t have needed to bet so much money against failure if I had scaled it back.

There is always a future month to increase the load if it’s too easy.
There is no reset button if you commit to too much. Bite the bullet, embrace the grind and don’t do it again.
